Bookmark Printing FAQ

Common questions about creating, printing, and finishing AI-generated bookmarks.

What paper should I use to print bookmarks?

Use 80lb cover (216gsm) or 100lb cover (270gsm) cardstock for durable bookmarks that hold up to daily use. Lighter paper bends and creases within days. Matte cardstock works best for watercolor and vintage designs, while semi-gloss enhances vibrant colors and metallic effects. Standard printer paper is too thin for bookmarks.

What is the standard bookmark size?

The standard bookmark size is 2x7 inches (51x178mm). This fits comfortably between pages in both paperback and hardcover books without protruding excessively. Some readers prefer 2x6 inches for smaller paperbacks or 2.5x8 inches for large art books. Our generator uses the 2x7 inch standard by default.

Should I laminate my bookmarks?

Lamination extends bookmark life from weeks to years by protecting against finger oils, humidity, and page friction. Use matte lamination pouches (3-5 mil thickness) for a professional feel without glare. Glossy lamination works for colorful designs but can create distracting reflections under reading lights.

How many bookmarks fit on one printed page?

On a standard 8.5x11 inch sheet, you can fit four 2x7 inch bookmarks with cutting margins. Arrange them side by side in two columns with 0.25 inch gaps between them. Use your image editor or word processor to tile the bookmark image before printing to minimize paper waste.

How do I add a tassel or ribbon to my bookmark?

Punch a single 3mm hole centered 5-8mm from the top edge using a hole punch. For ribbon, cut 8-10 inches of 3-6mm satin or cotton cord, fold in half, thread the loop through the hole, and pull the ends through the loop to secure. Apply adhesive reinforcement rings around the hole on heavy-use bookmarks.
